Nordic Insights Readers’ Choice Awards: Best American Female World Cup Skier, Non–Jessie Diggins Division

Date:

Yesterday’s voting (which btw is still open if you haven’t voted there yet) was for Jessie Diggins’s single best performance or accomplishment last season. I gave Diggins her own category here because I presumptively declared her to have been the best American female World Cup skier last season, which I feel like is pretty far from a hot take given her recent palmarès.

But the rest of the team is good too! Rosie Brennan was fourth overall in the World Cup! Julia Kern started every sprint all season, and made the heats in every single one! Sophia Laukli reached a World Cup podium! A decade ago, any of these would have been headline news in American ski media. Now, I had to create a separate category for this poll just so that we can be sure to also talk about these accomplished women and give them their due. It’s been a heady decade for American skiing.

Polling for this category is open now. As I wrote yesterday:

I did this via a Google Forms quiz, because that is free and I made almost no money on this site last year. Your response is recorded. It is not tied to your email address. I will post vote totals, or at least percentages, once voting ends. Choices here are arranged in alphabetical order by skier last name.

I can’t prevent you from voting twice. (I mean, I could, technologically speaking, but then the form has to ask for your email address, and that’s just a mess.) So please just don’t do that. This is serious business.

Vote here! Thanks!
