This week marks the seventh anniversary of Kikkan Randall and Jessie Diggins’s breakthrough gold medal at [prestigious global sporting event that I am not comfortable mentioning by name in a fundraising contest, even on behalf of a non-commercial entity such as NNF, because the IOC has lots of lawyers and is very scary; seriously though read this some time, or this] in February 2018.
I remember where I was when they won [global sporting event] gold. I was sitting at home in Anchorage, at 1:16 a.m. local time, watching a glitchy stream on my computer, crying, at first a little and then a lot. If you are reading this website, you probably remember where you were, too. And were probably also crying.
The National Nordic Foundation is celebrating the anniversary of this accomplishment with Gold Medal Giving Day. NNF notes:
“The NNF Athlete Support Grant intends to boost committed athletes who exhibit or have exhibited a propensity for international racing success as a Nordic athlete, and who face circumstances critical to that mission that require financial support. Gold Medal Day is Friday Feb 21, 2025 and will directly fund athlete grants. Our goal is to raise $20k.”
You can find out more about the campaign here, and can donate directly here.
