Kevin Bolger (Team Birkie) was added to the American squad for this year’s World Championships, U.S. Ski & Snowboard announced earlier Monday.
The original selection announcement had nodded to the possibility of nominating additional athletes based on strong performances in upcoming races. In the Falun World Cup weekend just completed, Bolger placed 19th in the classic sprint and 23rd in the 20km skate. The weekend before that, Bolger placed 10th in the 20km classic at Swedish National Championships, and qualified seventh in the skate sprint. He was added to the championships roster on a discretionary basis following those results.
There have now been 16 athletes officially nominated to the U.S. team for this year’s championships; you can find that list here. For a look at which athletes accepted the nomination and plan to race in Trondheim starting next week, please see here.
Racing starts in Norway with the skate sprint on February 27.
You’re reading this on Nordic Insights, one man’s labor of love dedicated to publicizing American nordic skiing. Last season’s GoFundMe is literally the only reason why I turned a profit in years one and two of Nordic Insights, and in turn the only reason why there is a year three of Nordic Insights for you to be reading now: I was okay with working for very little money to get this love letter toAmerican cross-country skiing off the ground, but I didn’t want to lose money for the privilege of doing so. If you would like to support what remains a brutally shoestring operation, last season’s GoFundMe may be found here. Thank you for your consideration, and, especially, for reading.
