Calling all skiers!

After pause in travel during the Covid pandemic, Skiku is proud to announce their return to travel in rural & remote Alaska. This season Skiku is set to make its way to nearly 40 communities across the state ranging from the western Bering Straits region, through the interior along the Yukon & Kuskokwim rivers, and ending our season in the Northwest Arctic and North Slope regions. From February through the end of April 2023 we are excited to bring smiles, stoke & skiing across Alaska with help from our amazing roster of volunteer coaches.

Skiku programming enlists volunteers from a variety of skiing backgrounds that include Olympians, professional coaches, high school athletes, and amateur skiers who all love to share the sport. Volunteers can expect to spend one week in a rural setting in remote Alaska working closely with tribal and school leadership to promote a healthy and fun outdoor winter activity. Coaches engage in valuable cross-cultural exchange as they pass on their knowledge of sport and in turn learn about traditional life in rural Alaska; all while skiing down rivers and along tundra with engaged youth athletes. Food and travel costs from Anchorage are covered by generous donations from corporate, foundation and individual donors. If you are interested in volunteering with Skiku, drop us a line on our volunteer application form at https://forms.gle/uWRKbn6pZhFxkr1E6
