LAGO DI TESERO — This round to Klæbo. Johannes Høsflot Klæbo came out on top in his much-anticipated showdown with Einar Hedegart, prevailing over the young skate specialist by 14 seconds in the men’s 10-kilometer interval-start skate. Mathis Desloges interrupted the Norwegian parade at the top of the results sheet in claiming his second silver medal in as many distance races, 4.9 seconds back. Norwegian men also finished fourth and fifth.
We’ll have a full report on the men’s race up within the day (for the time being, you can find some quotes in my not-short Instagram post. TLDR, rough day for everyone save John Steel Hagenbuch. Oh, and Chris Grover did not dodge my question about skis (like, were they not good today), but had not had a chance to debrief with the tech team yet and so truly did not know at the time I asked him.)
To tide you over until then, here is full audio from today’s podium press conference. Skip a minute or two into it to get to the questions. Enjoy.
Again, come back within the evening for a full race writeup. In conclusion, here is a photo of Klæbo crushing. It is very exciting for me to have real photos this fortnight for once. Why start a news site and get credentialed for the Olympics if you can’t bring your friend and training partner with you as media? Shoutout to Anna for the great photos this week.

You’re reading this on Nordic Insights, one man’s labor of love dedicated to publicizing American skiing. We started with nothing and now we’re at the Olympics. You can read more about our first three years here, and donate to the Olympics fund here. Thank you for consideration, and, especially, for reading.
