Green Mountain Valley School, located in Waitsfield, VT, is seeking an experienced, inspiring, and mission-aligned Nordic Program Director to lead its cross-country ski program and help shape the next generation of champions and leaders.

As Nordic Program Director, you’ll oversee all aspects of our Nordic program, from high-level coaching and athlete development to program strategy and recruitment. You’ll play a key leadership role in a collaborative school community that values excellence, character development, and holistic growth. Reporting to the Head of School, you will work closely with other program leaders to align with the school’s mission and strategic vision.
Key Responsibilities
Athlete Development
- Design and lead comprehensive year-round training and competition programs
- Coach and mentor athletes across all levels in technical, tactical, and mental performance
- Organize and supervise travel, equipment, and participation in regional, national, and international camps and events
- Build a positive, disciplined, and team-oriented culture
- Leverage technology and performance tools to support athlete progress
- Communicate proactively with athletes, families, and staff
Program Leadership & Growth
- Recruit top-tier, mission-aligned student-athletes from across the country
- Raise the program’s profile through outreach, events, and community engagement
- Direct the GMVSxc Summer Camp and other offseason initiatives
Coaching Staff Management
- Lead and support a talented Nordic coaching staff, including hiring, evaluation, and professional development
- Facilitate team meetings and coordinate with other athletic programs
Schoolwide Engagement
- Support student-athletes’ academic and personal growth
- Oversee scheduling, travel logistics, and budgeting in collaboration with school leadership
- Participate fully in school life, including student advising, co-curricular programming, and campus responsibilities
Qualities
- A seasoned Nordic coach with a strong track record of athlete development and team leadership
- An excellent communicator and mentor who thrives in a collaborative environment
- Passionate about supporting student-athletes both athletically and personally
- Familiar with the demands of a competitive ski academy environment
- Current U.S. Ski & Snowboard member (or willing to become one)
