Domestic Viewing Guide for March 26–30: SuperTour Finals/Spring Series in Lake Placid

Date:

By Gavin Kentch

Things are coming to a close here. The 2024/2025 SuperTour season that began in Birkieland way back in December wraps up this week with four races in five days at Mt Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid. Read on for results, schedule, and more.

Where are results?

On Bullitt Timing. Start here, then click through to the specific day you want. Live results will be available here when the races are, well, live (q.v., infra).

When are the races?

Here is the schedule as of Tuesday. Do note the final line at the bottom that this may change. I will update this with any revisions I become aware of.

What is the status of the races?

Technically speaking, and the schedule above ably notes as much, Wednesday’s 10km skate is a SuperTour race; the other three races are national championships. SuperTours pay out six deep, but have less prize money. National championships have more prize money, but, as you may expect, only pay out to first, second, and third. First place in literally a national championship race pays out $1200, which probably covers roundtrip airfare from Anchorage to the venue-ish. Sixth place in a SuperTour is worth $100. No one is getting rich out there.

What are athletes racing for?

In addition to prize money and prestige, the overall SuperTour leader at the end of the 2024/2025 season receives start rights for Period 1 of the 2025/2026 World Cup season.

The top-ranked American woman in these standings is currently a tie between Kate Oldham of Montana State and Emma Albrecht of BSF. (Three foreign nationals — Erica Lavén, Mariel Pulles, and Tilde Bångman — all have quite a few more points, but the Continental Cup leader spot for the American SuperTour most precisely goes to the top-ranked American skier.)

The top-ranked man, American or otherwise, is John Steel Hagenbuch (USST/Dartmouth), who enjoys a presumptively insurmountable lead over Luke Jager and Michael Earnhart, both USST/APU, coming into SuperTour Finals.

Finally, clubs are also competing for the NNF Cup, which, uh, seeks to “celebrate the spirit and creativity at play in providing US skiers with structured programs for their continued development, and nod to the competitive nature of these programs by adding a club-wide aspect to their performance-oriented goals.” TLDR, the club or school whose athletes score the most points this winter wins some money and some bragging rights.

The current leader in the NNF Cup is the University of Erica Lavén Utah, with APU second. NNF pays the winning club $3,000.

You can find SuperTour standings here, and NNF Cup standings here.

Who is racing?

A host of top domestic skiers, including athletes from APU, Team Birkie, SMS, Craftsbury, Sun Valley, BSF, Utah, Northern Michigan, Vermont, Dartmouth, and others.

Turnout from the World Cup crew looks better this year than in some years. I’m not going to hazard guesses as to which World Cup athletes on the entrants list will actually put on a bib, but expect more such representation this year than is often the case. The chance to preview World Cup Finals 2026 does not hurt.

Where can you find more information, such as course maps or about Saturday’s ski with Ben Ogden?

Here is the general site for the week of racing.

Where can you find additional coverage of these races?

Nordic Insights will have boots-on-the-ground reporting from Lake Placid all week long. Don’t touch that dial.

You’re reading this on Nordic Insights, one man’s labor of love dedicated to publicizing American skiing. We started with nothing and now we’re going to the Olympics.
