Period 3 of World Cup racing continues with a three-race weekend in Les Rousses, France, starting tomorrow. There is a distance skate race tomorrow, classic sprints on Saturday, and mass start classic race on Sunday.
American starters for tomorrow’s 10-kilometer interval-start skate are Alayna Sonnesyn, Julia Kern, Jessie Diggins, Sarah Goble, Rosie Brennan, Alex Lawson, and Hailey Swirbul, for the women; and Peter Wolter, Zak Ketterson, Finn O’Connell, Scott Patterson, and Will Koch, for the men. The weekend will mark the World Cup debut for Goble and Wolter on Friday, as well as, presumptively, Alex Lawson on Saturday. Koch and Adam Witkowski made their World Cup debuts last weekend in Livigno.
Disclosure, I am going to be on the ground in Whistler during both this World Cup weekend and next weekend’s stop in Toblach, and Morgan Hartley, who assisted with our World Cup coverage during the Tour de Ski, will be working equally long hours while coaching at Arctic Winter Games in remote Wood Buffalo, Alberta. Nordic Insights will be concentrating its efforts on World Junior/U23 Championships this week. Expect detailed coverage here from Whistler, and frankly pretty de minimis World Cup coverage over the next nine days.
