This is a reader-funded website. Virtually all of my income (for perspective: I took home less than $5,000 from Nordic Insights last year after paying staff) comes from reader contributions, which I sincerely appreciate. If you would like to support the site, including helping us get to the Olympics in February, you may do so here. Thank you.
Every October, fall camp in Park City brings together a broad swath of American skiing for a range of training benefits: time at altitude, camaraderie and community, a real rollerski track, generally good fall weather backdropped by Instagram-worthy golden foliage, and so on. Angie Kell, our Park City correspondent, wrote a fine article about this just yesterday, which you can read here. (You can also find coverage of Schutzenski rollerski racing here.)
For the dozen-plus skiers in attendance who are on the national team this season, their time in Park City brings with it another perk as well: photo day. In the rigorous and complicated article that follows, please enjoy the official headshots for the 2025/2026 national team currently available through USSS media.
All photos here are taken by Steven Vargo, Vargo Photography (website | Instagram), and are used with permission from USSS. Athletes are listed in, uh, the order they are shown on the USSS SmugMug page that I pulled these from. Short-form team affiliations are my own; yes I know that nearly everyone on this list skied for a college and a club as well, and that those institutions are inextricable from the current success of American skiing, but that’s what “short form” gets you. See Bluebook Rule 10.9 for more.
Here are the athletes as shown in their official portrait session last month:
Ben Ogden (SMS)

Haley Brewster (University of Vermont)

Gus Schumacher (APU)

Jack Young (Craftsbury)

Jessie Diggins (SMS)

John Steel Hagenbuch (Sun Valley)

Julia Kern (SMS)

Kendall Kramer (APU)

Kate Oldham (BSF)

Lucas Wilmot (University of Utah)

Rosie Brennan (APU)

Murphy Kimball (University of Alaska Anchorage)

Tabor Greenberg (University of Vermont)

Zanden McMullen (APU)

Sydney Palmer-Leger (Mansfield)

Note that this is just 15 athletes; there are a full 21 athletes on the USST this year. Here are some recent-ish (emphasis on ish) images of the other six athletes on the national team for 2025/2026, as pulled from a motley collection of sources reflecting the fact that I don’t exactly have a photo subscription at this humble enterprise. (At the bottom of this article I’m begging for money to cover my Olympic lodging (and will end this year in the red if I don’t get it); a photo service is a luxury by comparison.)
USSS, if you also share images of coaches and staff the way you have in past years, I will post the heck out of that. The people demand more content like this (Chris Grover, 2024/2025 headshot, also by Vargo Photography).

Anyway, here are the final six athletes on this year’s national team, in A- to D-Team order:
Sophia Laukli (Aker Dæhlie)

JC Schoonmaker (APU)

Novie McCabe (APU)

Sammy Smith (Sun Valley)

Fin Bailey (University of Vermont)

Jack Lange (Dartmouth)

You’re reading this on Nordic Insights, one man’s labor of love dedicated to publicizing American skiing. We started with nothing and now we’re going to the Olympics. You can read more about our first three years here, and donate to the Olympics fund here. Thank you for consideration, and, especially, for reading.
